Patagonia Ascent

El Chaltén is a small village located at the trailheads to both Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre, at an altitude of 400 m. It offers a wide range of services including campgrounds, hostels, hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, gear shops, post office, ATM, internet and phone access.

Due to its location, it serves as our base camp and starting point for most of the activities we offer.

WEATHER CONDITIONS

Patagonian weather is known for strong winds and extreme variability. Between October and March, days can range from sunny with temperatures around 13°C, to rain, hail, and occasionally snow.

Night temperatures usually drop between 0°C and 5°C, and wind chill can make it feel significantly colder.

Good weather can occur in both summer and winter. Most climbers visit between early November and late February due to longer days and warmer temperatures.

Conditions vary throughout the season. November often presents more snow and ice, while the second half of January and February typically offer better rock climbing conditions. Later in the season, glacier approaches may become more complex due to increased crevasse exposure.

January and early February are peak tourist months. For those seeking quieter experiences, October or March are recommended.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Patagonian weather should be considered an integral part of the adventure. It is essential to be prepared for all conditions and equipped with high-quality windproof and waterproof gear.

Having the proper equipment makes a significant difference in comfort and safety.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

The execution of any planned activity depends heavily on weather and terrain conditions. As mentioned, conditions in this region are highly unstable and unpredictable.

All itineraries should be considered as guidelines. External factors such as weather and terrain may require modifications, and the guide will make decisions accordingly to ensure safety.
