PROGRAM

The day before the expedition there is a brief meeting with the guide to check equipment and finalize details.

Day 1

Once the equipment is organized, we drive to Hostería El Pilar on the way to Río Eléctrico. We begin with a 2-hour hike to Poincenot Camp and continue for another hour to Laguna de los Tres, one of the most iconic hikes in Patagonia.

We then follow the southern margin of the lake using fixed ropes and some easy climbing to bypass a rock outcrop. After gearing up, we cross the glacier and reach base camp at Paso Superior.

  • Distance: 12 km (7–8 hours)
  • Elevation gain: 1500 m
  • Camp: Paso Superior

Day 2

We start early to take advantage of colder temperatures. This is the most scenic section of the route as we traverse Glaciar Superior at the base of Fitz Roy.

After approximately 2 hours we reach Guillaumet Pass, followed by a descent of about 700 meters to our next camp at Piedra Negra.

  • Distance: 4 km (4–5 hours)
  • Elevation gain: 800 m
  • Camp: Piedra Negra

Day 3

From camp, and leaving the glacier, we descend for approximately 2 hours along a well-marked trail to Piedra del Fraile Camp.

From there, we continue for another 2 hours on mostly flat terrain until reaching the Río Eléctrico bridge, where a vehicle will take us back to El Chaltén.

  • Distance: 12 km
  • Elevation gain: 800 m descent
