Patagonia Ascent

This peak is one of the most scenic on the Fitz Roy ridge and presents a major challenge for climbers with alpine experience. The approach follows the Cerro Torre valley, surrounded by unique and breathtaking landscapes.

The Kearney-Harrington route is the most accessible option, covering 400 meters of granite with a difficulty rating of 6a+.

PROGRAM

The day before the expedition there is a brief meeting with the guide to check equipment and arrange last-minute details.

DAY 1

We start hiking from El Chaltén along the Torre Trail to Laguna Torre. We cross the Fitz Roy River via a zip line and continue along the north face of Cerro Solo, passing above the tree line before descending to the Torre Glacier.

We then continue over the glacier, passing Niponino, until reaching Camp Polacos.

  • Distance: 20 km
  • Duration: 7–8 hours
  • Elevation gain: 1500 m
  • Camp: Bivouac Polacos

DAY 2

Climbing day. The approach takes 2 to 3 hours over technical terrain using short rope techniques.

From there, the climb begins: a 400-meter granite route rated 6a+. After summiting, we descend via the same route and return to camp.

DAY 3

We return to El Chaltén following the same route as Day 1.

DIFFICULTY

Difficult alpine terrain, which may include steep scree slopes, use of short rope technique, rock climbing, ice climbing, moraines, glaciers and snow. Elevation gain of 1,000 m or more.
