With an abundance of magnificent snow and stable weather from July to October, ski touring in El Chaltén is a truly unique experience. In just one day, we aim to take you to the best skiing spots in the area.

Along with exceptional ski terrain, the views in El Chaltén are spectacular. Throughout the region, you will reach incredible viewpoints showcasing the natural beauty of Argentine Patagonia.

Some of the best ski touring spots include Mount Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre, Cerro Crestón and Cerro Madsen. There are also excellent slopes on Cerro Vespignani and several beautiful valleys. Thanks to this variety, we can always find the perfect objective for you.

The choice of location will depend on snow conditions, weather, your technical level and personal preferences.

PROGRAM

The day before departure we have a short meeting with the guide to finalize details and check the necessary equipment. The objective will be selected according to technical level, physical condition and weather.

ACTIVITY DAY

Early departure towards the chosen objective. Depending on conditions, we will access valleys, glaciers or slopes near iconic peaks such as Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre.

Throughout the day we will ascend using skins and then enjoy one or more descents on carefully selected terrain.

DIFFICULTY

Beginners: No prior backcountry skiing experience is required. You must be able to safely ski down black runs at a ski resort.

  • Elevation gain: 500 to 1000 m
  • Slopes: up to 35°

 

Intermediate skiers: No backcountry skiing experience is required. A good level of off-piste skiing is necessary.

  • Elevation gain: 1000 to 1500 m
  • Slopes: up to 40°

 

Advanced skiers: Backcountry skiing experience is required, along with a good level of off-piste skiing and experience ascending with skins.

  • Elevation gain: over 1500 m
  • Slopes: steeper than 40°
