Day 1

We drive to the Río Eléctrico bridge, where we begin a 2-hour hike along a mostly flat trail through a forest of large Lenga trees until reaching Piedra del Fraile Camp.

From there, we gain elevation quickly along the trail to Piedra Negra Camp, which takes approximately 3 additional hours.

Day 2

We start early, hiking for about 1 hour to Paso del Cuadrado. From there, we descend to the Pollone Glacier and then traverse upward to Filo del Hombre Sentado.

Here we establish a new camp near the rappel line for the following day.

This is the most technical day of the expedition. We rappel approximately 200 meters of vertical terrain before continuing on foot toward our next camp at Niponino, in the Cerro Torre Valley.

  • Duration: 8–10 hours
  • Distance: 13 km
  • Elevation: 750 m ascent / 1300 m descent

We then pass Laguna Torre across rocky terrain until reaching the forest trail, which leads us back to El Chaltén.

  • Distance: 20 km
  • Descent: 700 m
